In this class students will gain the most valuable and fundamental aspect of acting: listening and responding and learning to behave truthfully under imaginary circumstances.  Through a series of exercises created and devised by the late great Sanford Meisner, students will quickly learn to become more uninhibited in their acting, learning how to enliven their acting skills so that they are free to take risks, make bold choices, and to have fun while doing it.  The class will be broken down as follows:

Month 1: learning to listen through Meisner’s repetition exercises

Month 2: Scene work incorporating Meisner Exercises

Month 3: Scene Showcase with invited audience in our 45 seat performance studio

What People Have To Say

“Greg Parente gives validity to the entire craft. Working with him makes you want to act, and evokes a real understanding of why you’re up on that stage.” -Connor Paolo (Gossip Girl, Mystic River, World Trade Center, Alexander, Snow Angels)

“Greg Parente possesses more than just an immense understanding of his craft, but also an equally immense understanding of how to teach it. He uses simplicity and truthfulness as an underlying platform so that when his students are faced with heavier emotional work it just comes naturally. I felt so safe in his classroom that I never feared falling down just to learn from my mistakes. I have studied acting with many teachers, and I can say from experience that Parente is an extremely rare find.” -Stephen Scarpulla (Broadway: Gypsy, Oklahoma, Les Miserables, Christmas Carol)

“Greg’s passion for the craft is always evident. His love for the theater has inspired and challenged me in the most incredible way.” -Silvestre Rasuk (Raising Victor Vargas and Mother Courage, opposite Meryl Streep)

“Mr. Parente has been such an inspiration to me ever since I joined his drama class. He brings constant energy to us, the students, and always has us excited for the next class. Most importantly, he influences his students to be the best they can be, and because he is so well respected and talented, you want to perform to your greatest ability. Mr. Parente is an amazing educator and is tremendously talented in his line of work. I feel extremely fortunate to be in his class.” -Kristen Alderson (Starr on One Life to Live)

“Greg Parente leads his students with a gentle hand that molds their acting skills. He is a true actor’s director and will always be there to guide you to the path that fits you, all the while making the process fun and exciting.” -Sarah Hyland (Modern Family, Lipstick Jungle, Grey Gardens)

“Mr. Parente inspires his students to jump in and take risks by providing a safe and comfortable learning environment. He spreads his love of the theatre to everyone he encounters. He is the rock, the foundation, the soil, the water, and the sun that gives his students vital growth as aspiring actors. He is an innovator who cares for the well-being and growth of his students, and he helps them realize their true talents and potential.”
